Decoding (Phonics)
- Learn phonograms AI, AY, OA, IR, UR, OO, EA, IGH, TCH, DGE, EW, WR, KN, EIGH, OE, and TI
- Read words containing the new phonograms, such as paint, play, boat, third, purple, soon, mean, light, match, budge, flew, wrong, know, sleigh, toe, and action
- Read words with Pickle syllables, as in bubble and table
Decoding (Structural Analysis)
- Identify base words
- Read words with vowel suffixes, as in fastest, and consonant suffixes, as in gladly
- Read words with prefixes, as in mistake
- Learn syllable division rules for reading multisyllable words
Vocabulary
- Discuss new words in the context of the story and one’s own life
- Understand homophones
- Understand synonyms, antonyms, onomatopoeia, alliteration, similes, idioms, and personification
Fluency
